I had to put Lincoln's top hat on this blog. I erased it from further down.
We were able to drive over on our way home from the Outer Banks, NC and see our Nation's Capitol. It was such a great trip to take with the kids. Now they can actually say that they have been where they are learning about in school.

Except Carley was not happy that we had to walk 2 blocks from our hotel in the 98 degree heat (not including humidity) to stand in front of the White House for a picture.

This is the front of the White House where our tour bus had access to. We took a Twilight Tour of Washington D.C. which turned out to be great. It started at our Marriot Hotel. We were the last to be picked up and the first to be dropped off. As the evening came upon us it did get a little cooler. Not much though. IT took us to all the main sites and monuments around D.C. I recommend this to anyone who wants to see D.C. in 5 hours or less.

Thomas Jefferson Monument...kids posing out front.
Thomas Jefferson. We arrived at our hotel and checked in about 5:00. We had gotten a flat tire on our way down to the Outer Banks so we stopped to have it fixed which made us arrive a little later than planned. It all worked out okay because we were able to eat linch at Arby's while we waited. We dropped out suitcases off in our room and then walked over to see the white house. Once we returned Kevin's shirt and undershirt were soaking wet from how hot it was outside so he went up to change and we ate dinner at the resaurant there in the air conditioned Marriot. We finished in just enough time to make our tour. It all worked out perfectly.

The Franklin D. Roosevelt memorial was actually a park that you walked through and there were fountains and benches. Very classy...and more modern.

Carley said she wanted to have me take a picture of just her and I while we were waiting for our tour bus to pick us up.
World War II memorial. This was a very sacred place. There were wreaths placed on every state represented to honor their service.
Lincoln Memorial...Carley was tired and barely made the climb up all the stairs.
It was dark out and about 11:00 at this point. We had just went by the Vietnam War and Korean War Memorials. It all had such a reverent feeling. I am so grateful for such brave men and women who fight for our freedoms and keep us safe.
Daddy took care of tired little Carley through the war memorials. We love daddy.

They passed out on our way back to the hotel. Thank goodness we were dropped off first.

Our room had 2 doubles and so the girls slept in one bed and Zack slept on a roll away stuffed in the corner.

Every child took care of their stuff so well. Carley was such a great sport.
We went to some of the museums the next day. We had to make sure to see certain things. C3PO.

I just saw the movie Julia and Julie. It was super cute.
I found out so much I didn't know about Julia Child's that made this much more interesting. She just took up French cooking as a habit while living in France and made the first English French cookbook.

Michelle Obama's inaugeration dress. It was so beautiful.
She is a very elegant, beautiful woman.
It was so neat to walk through and see the background to the start spangled banner. You could not take any pictures.
This is a copy of the original flag that was inside on display for us to see. One of the stars is cut out.

It was cool to see all the airplanes on display in the museum. I ran back to get our car and our luggage and Kevin and the kids met me. We had a lovely vacation and then had to drive about 12 hours home. It was a super long trip but one well worth taking. I am glad that we were able to become more appreciative of our Nation.
