OUTER BANKS, North Carolina

Kevin and I are standing out on the dock at sun set. Tiffani took these pretty pictures.
The dock is right off of the house. I would go out to the gazebo each night and we would do sit-ups and push-ups and smell hte salt water and feel the nice breeze.

They had all kinds of things for the kids to do...as well as families. The first day was a water balloon toss.

Carley and I did it together and were out pretty quick. Our house we were staying is was about a mile to the club house and we would all ride our bikes there.

It took us about 12 hours to drive there. We decided to leave at 7 pm and drive through the night to try and miss all the traffic. It worked well enough but by the time we got to about 2 hours outside of NC we got a flat tire and took about 2 hours changing it in the rain. It was pretty miserable because we were so tired and just wanted to crash.

Outside the back of the house...when we arrived it was a Saturday and we went to the beach in the evening. On Sunday we were able to go to church at a local branch and then we went to the largest Sand dunes. We also walked through the Wright Brothers Museum and saw a kite show.

The hot tub was on the second deck and Kevin and I stayed in the master bedroom on the top floor. We had a great deck off of the room.

Mike and Brenda's kids are all of our kids ages except they have 3 boys and 1 girl. Garrett and Carley were buddies. They hung out and did almost everything together with Natalie. Mitchell and Zack were the same age and would ride their bikes to the fitness center to play ping pong and wallyball. They would ride to the beach together. It was so much fun to have someone for him to play with. Carter was Natalie's age but he hung out more with Zack and Mitchell. Brooke and Kelsey are the same age but Kelsey had her cousin Tiffani there and so they hung out together and Brooke would hang out with Carter and Natalie at times.

We flew kites on the beach. The nice thing was we could go to the beach and stay there as long as we wanted to. When we were finished we could go back to the house or go swimming at the pool or play volleyball or tennis. Or go sight seeing or shopping. We had such a fun time. The Olsen family was so much fun to be with.

Carter, Garrett, Zack with their crab.

Mitchell, Carley, Natalie and Garrett...we would find them all playing their gaming systems every now and again. We also would watch the Tour De France each day before venturing out.

The bikes were my favorite part. I loved it that we did not have to drive cars all week. We would just all jump on bikes and ride anywhere at anytime. The fitness center was only 1 block away.
Ping Pong tournaments were fun. The wallyball tournament we had a good time at. There is a certain skill to wallyball that you have to learn and that is use the walls and you will win.

Carley and Garret made their own sand sculpture.

They had a big day where there was a sand castle/sculpture contest. It was fun to walk around and see all of the sculptures that day.

These were the bikes we would ride around.

The basketball tournament and free throw contest was very fun.

The kids were able to swim their laps for swim team at the fitness center. We would go there every other day to make sure that they kept in shape.

Because we had older kids to babysit for us we could go out to dinner a couple of nights as just couples. Mike and Brenda are so fun to be with.
We went for a drive to look at houses and dream about buying one one day.
We found these twin houses side by side that would be awesome to own one day.
The pool was beach side so the kids could swin in the ocean and then just walk over to the pool and jump in. Carley, Natalie, Garrett
Mike was able to take the kids for a boat ride on the sound side. It was nice and clam and everyone had a fun time. It made me nervous that they were not wearing life vests.

One night we took a walk to the beach to look at ghost crabs... they come out at night and run all over the beach.

They were all different sizes.
When the light would go on them they would all scatter. The kids called them Holy Ghosts crabs.

Kevin took some time and built some rockets withthe boys and then we all went and launched them. The boys loved it so much. Garrett was so excited. Zack loved making sure his went really high.
Zack's was pretty big. He did a great job putting it together and launching.

Kevin was like a little kid building and launching all of them. He has so much fun doing those kinds of things. Mike was grateful that he did not have to do them.

Garrett and Natalie became really good buddies by the end of the week. It would have been so much fun to bring him home with us.
I think this is a trip that we would love to take with the kids every year. Mike and Brenda's family is so much fun.
Kelsey, Tiffani and Brooke. They would ride their bikes to the shops and little cafes and just hang out. Brooke had a really fun time.
The hammock out back was so much fun to just sit out on now and again. The kids loved being there and reading books.

Here we have the whole crew. Left to right...Carter, Mitchell, Kelsey, Carley, Brooke, Zack, Kelly, Natalie, Garrett, Kevin, Brenda and Mike. We look forward to doing it with them again. Hopefully we are invited back for next year.
